For this blog assignment you will need to read the following article and watch the video to answer the questions.  Remember questions must be answered in complete sentences.  This assignment is due by 10:00 PM Sunday 05 May 2013.

Questions:

1.  What is the substance bacteria produce that scientist claim can promote heart disease (give abbreviation and name)?

2.  How does this substance cause heart disease?

3.  Which foods cause the gut to produce high levels of TMAO?

4.  What did you learn from these articles and how does it affect how you eat?

1. TMAO/Trimethylamine N-oxide
2. Gut bacteria turn lecithin in food into TMAO, or trimethylamine-N-oxide, causing heart disease.
3. lecithin
4. What i learned is that everything me and most people is not safe for consumption and how it can actually be quite dangerous for me. So i must check such things as food labels and search up on the internet if i am not sure on wt i am eating is safe.

1. The substance is called TMAO/trimethylamine-N-oxide.
2. The lab mice turn the lecithin in food into the TMAO which causes heart disease.
3. The foods that cause the gut to produce high levels of TMAO are eggs, red meat, and carnitine.
4. I learned that I should be careful of what I eat and what nutrients are inside the food that I eat. It affects how I eat because it tells me that my favorite foods that I eat are not always the healthiest.

1. bacteria are producing TMAO(trimethylamine-N-oxide) which scientist are claiming can promote heart disease.

2.That in the lab mice the gut bacteria they turn the lecithin into food and then into TMAO causing it to convert to heart disease.

3. The foods that caused the gut to produce high levels of TMAO were hard-boiled eggs, red meat, and carnitine.

4. I learned that dangerous bacteria inhabbit all of theese high chelestrol food types. I should try eand less of theese foods and try to enrich my diet of vegtables and meals full of nutrients.

1. The substance is called TMAO, or trimethylamine-N-oxide.
2. It makes blood cholesterol build up on artery walls, causing atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries), which eventually leads to a stroke or heart attack.
3. By eating foods with Lecithin in them, like egg yolks, liver, beef, pork, and wheat germ, then the gut bacteria will transform the Lecithin into TMAO.
4. I learned that no matter what we eat, no matter how healthy it is, there will be some health problem associated with it caused by some substance, foreign to our body or not.

Heart attacks and strokes can be major problems in America. However, scientists are making small steps towards finding reasons behind these problems. A new reason for such travesties that was discovered is called TMAO, or Trimethylamine-N-oxide. It is caused by microbacteria that appear in the gut that cause blockage in a person's arteries. Certain foods such as red meats, cheese, eggs, and wheat germ fuel the clogging process. This article has taught me that all foods in excess can cause major problems. I think that I probably won't change my eating habits too drastically, but this is causing me to stop eating too many of these foods.

1. Bacteria makes TMAO or trimethylamine-N-oxide
2. Some animals turn lecithin into TMAO which clogs arteries.
3. Food like egg yolks, liver, beef, pork make lecithin.
4. i learned some of the things people eat may harmful to us and that everyone should pay attention to their food.
